A New Adventure

A new adventure is beginning

With the start of the new year approaching, it is time for reflection. This year, for everyone, has been just one struggle after another. a year fueled by depression, anxiety, and uncertainty. I was talking with a friend a few days back, we had dated many years before, and during our conversation, we got onto the topic of trauma-induced memory loss. From that topic, the conversation steered towards the fact that I can’t remember my childhood or teenage years. as a result, we both realized, that I had never once vocalized my past to her. I won’t be doing that here.

That conversation made me realize, in a more substantial way, that I have been living in fear my whole life. Constantly running in one form or the other. Using outside influences to hide away from my past, never truly loving myself. But, my past is not the topic of this post. For anyone that has either grown up next to the ocean or has spent years on or next to the ocean, feel a certain calmness when presented with that particular view.

I’ve imagined and talked about a book of images that portrays the calmness you feel at the beach, and at the same time showing different locations. The dream is to travel the world capturing all the different kinds of beaches and the feeling you get when standing there. At the moment it is too large of a scale to be feasible. Especially right now, with the pandemic, and traveling abroad being almost impossible.

The temporary dream will be every beach from each state of the US. Each state will get one image.

*indicates a state that will get multiple images.

The states that will be involved will be:

  • Key West
  • Florida*
  • Georgia
  • South Carolina
  • North Carolina
  • Virginia
  • Delaware
  • Pennsylvania
  • New York
  • Connecticut
  • Rhode Island
  • Massachusetts
  • New Hampshire
  • Maine
  • Alabama
  • Louisiana
  • Texas
  • California*
  • Oregon
  • Washington

I would like to do this all on film. The logistics of that could be a pain cause I plan on living in my car for this journey. I think it would be totally worth it, though. this will culminate in a book.

I’m curious to see if anyone would be interested in contributing to a Kickstarter or Patreon? or both? I plan on creating a youtube channel and doing at least weekly vlogs. The Patreon would help me get to all the locations and fuel the car and feed myself. The Kickstarter would be for book production. let me know what you all think. I feel really good about this idea, and want to see it come to fruition. I already have a name for the youtube channel, the series, and the book.

I’ll end this post with an image that will be included in the book.
